King Ranch in the Estrella Mountains of Goodyear

King Ranch Estrella Goodyear AZ*UPDATE August 7, 2015*

King Ranch is Active in the MLS as of today.  It is still listed by Realty One Group.  The list price is now $1.9 mill again.  This 3,893 square foot home sits on approximately 5.18 acres of land. Here is a link to the most updated listing information and photos: King Ranch MLS Listing.  If the link has expired, please feel free to shoot us an email and I’ll send it to you. It expires every 30 days.

For the first time ever, King Ranch in the Estrella Mountains of Goodyear, Arizona was listed for sale on October 11, 2013 at $1,950,000. The listing was cancelled 98 days later.  A new listing on January 17, 2014 at $895,000 made King Ranch the third highest priced home for sale in all of Goodyear, AZ. 273 days later, the listing was cancelled again.

As you drive up the hill to the master planned community of Estrella on Estrella Parkway, you will see the home on your right shortly after crossing over the Gila River. Every day when I drive up the mountain towards home, I notice the “King Ranch” entrance sign and marvel at the stunning views that surround the home. I’ve said to Todd, on more than one occasion, “One day, I want to live in King Ranch.” There’s something about the sign – the fact that the house has it’s own name and it’s own private road – that incites curiosity. The address is 7520 S. Estrella Parkway, Goodyear, AZ 85338.

Of course, every home has a story and King Ranch has a history that spans five decades. Jim King Sr. was instrumental in developing the Estrella Mountain Regional Park in Goodyear. In 1963, he built this custom home buried in the mountains of the the southwest valley desert. Jim King Sr. was a longtime resident and businessman in the southwest valley and from what I gather from the little research I’ve done in the past couple of days, he was a true gentlemen, a philanthropist, a loving father and husband and had a true desire to make Goodyear, Arizona a better place to live, work and thrive.

There is a book called “Images of America: Goodyear” by Denise E. Bates, Ph.D. and Sally Kiko that I just ordered on Amazon. (Update: I just saw this book for sale in the Estrella Walgreens.) Apparently it contains over 200 pictures of the area and many of these photos were donated by Gloria King, Jim King Sr.’s wife. From the previews of the book, it appears many fun and charitable events were held on the King Ranch property throughout the years. Jim King Sr. and his family must have truly enjoyed hosting guests at their home.

In 2005 Jim King Sr. achieved the Goodyear Person of the Year award. A year later, his obituary in the West Valley View, was titled “Jim King Sr., ‘Patriarch of Goodyear’, dies”.

So glad I finally looked into the history behind King Ranch and Jim King Sr. I will smile now, as I drive up Estrella Parkway each day and glance over at King Ranch and think about the history and the story.
